Thomas C. Rentschler practices in the areas of Family Law, including Divorce, Support, Custody, Protection from Abuse, Name Changes and Pre-Nuptial Agreements, as well as Estate Planning, Estate Administration, and Guardianships.
Tom’s diverse professional and educational backgrounds enable him to assess and understand his clients’ varied legal issues and needs from multiple angles. He enjoys communicating with clients and developing options to assist them with their unique circumstances. From his 15-year teaching career, he has gained experience with children, their needs, and family situations of all types. Tom takes time with clients to ensure that they fully understand the issues they face; he guides them through the legal process to effective solutions using settlements and litigation when necessary.
Tom earned distinctions in several of his law school classes and had an article he authored published in the Widener Law Review. He graduated with highest honors from the Widener University School of Law. Tom earned undergraduate degrees from Penn State in accounting and secondary education and his master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from West Chester University.
Tom is the President of the Board of Directors of the non-profit Berks Connections/Pre-Trial Services. He also provides pro-bono seminars for Berks-Safe which is a shelter for individuals fleeing from domestic abuse. As one of three petitioners who was selected to testify in Commonwealth Court, Tom proudly and actively participated in the League of Women Voters legal case challenging the constitutionality of Pennsylvania’s gerrymandered congressional map. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court ultimately agreed with the petitioners and declared Pennsylvania’s existing congressional map as unconstitutional.
Tom is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and both the Montgomery and Berks County Bar Associations. In addition, he has experience with and practices in the surrounding counties of Berks, Chester, Schuylkill and Lehigh. He is also admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
In his free time, Tom enjoys spending time with his family, walking and hiking with his wife and her dog, Oliver Wendell Holmes, watching his step-daughter speed around the bases in softball, and sneaking in a few rounds of golf.
